Blue Botanicals
Blue Botanicals, created in 2022, is a series of 24” x 18” linoleum block prints, all printed on 30” x 22” Rives BFK Buff 280g paper. Newly acquired chip carving skills influenced the marks on the linocuts I learned while making traditional Spanish furniture. The botanical stencils were constructed after pulling ephedra and purslane from my NM desert “yard,” where it grows wild around my studio. After making drawings of the plants, I turned them into digital files and had dozens of paper laser cuts made. I used laser cuts as stencils to block out areas of ink from the linoleum blocks, learning water blue images behind them. This series explores the influences on my life since moving to the NM desert, investigating the impact of place and the pursuit of water.
